Where would I post stuff like general every day chat, talk about the weather, talk about your hobbies other than writing, your grandchildren or family?

I didn't want to place them in the jokes area.

I noticed a picture area. Going to take a look at that right now.

This is a good area to start if I see the need I can open another section to fill the need.

Well your site is called Whispers of Poetry....why not call the chatting area:

Members' Whispering Chats

Sub forums could range from:

Weather

News ( you already have)

Pictures (you already have)

Music

Your Country

And one of my favorites is:

Gardening

Also you could have a place for Published or Well Known Poets where we could post a favorite poem from time to time. (I think is is fine if you make sure the author is acknowledged when posting published poetry)
